We fell in love with Helsinki. It seems to us that the Finish capital has the charm that both Oslo and Stockholm are a bit short off. The three capitals boast loads typical early 20th century Scandinavian buildings, but Helsinki has some truly outstanding Art Deco palaces. Walking by the exceptional Train station felt glamorous. And the glam didn’t stop there, modern architecture is spectacular and it’s everywhere: from Alvar Aalto’s Finlandia, to the Museum of Modern Art Kiasma and the recently built Music Centre. Virtually every neighborhood is surrounded by beautiful nature, green areas, promenades, parks and the sea at every corner.
And now, the best – the Finns. Happy Frog Travels finds Finnish people one of the most beautiful on the planet. While slightly reserved and polite you feel them warm, charming and lovely. We certainly felt very welcomed! Our days were spent walking, having superb coffee, people watching and indulging in good food. We chose well our hotel, with a cool swimming pool and great views over Hesperia Park, Crowne Plaza Helsinki provided a well deserved rest. We went to an island called Suomenlinna, and couldn’t believe just how cool the place is, so that will have a post of its own soon!
